Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a condition that causes the excessive development of breast tissue in men, affecting their body image and, frequently, diminishing their self-esteem. Gynecomastia surgery is aimed at correcting this problem by removing excess fat, gland or skin in the pectoral area, in order to achieve a more masculine, proportionate appearance.

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is characterized by the abnormal growth of breast tissue in men. It often appears during adolescence, a stage in which it is essential to rule out possible hormonal alterations that may be causing this breast development. In many adolescents, gynecomastia is transient and tends to reverse spontaneously over time.

In adulthood, gynecomastia may be related to aging, certain diseases, or the use of medications or toxic substances. However, in many cases, the exact cause remains unknown.

Differences between gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia

It is essential to distinguish between gynecomastia (excess glandular tissue) and pseudogynecomastia (excess fat), as treatment varies depending on the cause:

Gynecomastia: Refers to excessive growth of glandular tissue.

Pseudogynecomastia: Usually due to excess fat, common in overweight men.

Gynecomastia Treatment Options

Treatment of gynecomastia usually combines different surgical techniques, tailored to the specific needs of the patient:

Liposuction: This is the most commonly used technique when breast augmentation is primarily due to fat accumulation. It is ideal in cases where there is no significant skin excess.

Glandulectomy: If the overgrowth is glandular tissue, it is necessary to remove it through a glandulectomy to restore the pectoral shape.

Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery

Surgery to correct gynecomastia offers numerous benefits, including:

Improved body image: removal of excess breast tissue helps restore a more masculine and balanced appearance.

Increased confidence and self-esteem: After gynecomastia correction, many men experience greater confidence in their self-image and self-confidence.

Long-lasting solution: The surgery provides stable and long-lasting results, significantly improving the aesthetics of the pectoral area.

El lifting no solo rejuvenece, sino que permite que el envejecimiento futuro siga un proceso natural.

We answer your questions

If liposuction is performed, the scars will be minimal, a few millimeters, and will be strategically located in areas of low visibility, becoming almost imperceptible over time. If skin or glandular tissue needs to be removed, it is likely that a scar around the areola will be required.

Yes, it is possible to correct it. When liposuction of the breast fat is performed and the volume is reduced, the areola tends to contract, which decreases its diameter. If this reduction is not sufficient, a periareolar scar can be made to further reduce the size of the areola.

Physical activity and sports can be resumed one month after the operation. We recommend starting with a light activity and gradually increasing the intensity or time.

Almost all men over 40 years of age and overweight have some degree of gynecomastia. In the population under 40 years of age the prevalence of gynecomastia is about 10-15%.
