During surgery, the size of the areola is also adjusted to achieve a more proportionate appearance, and if you prefer, it is possible to reduce the size of the nipple.
In addition to improving the aesthetic appearance, this intervention relieves or eliminates discomfort such as back, neck and shoulder pain caused by the excessive weight of the breast. After the operation, you will have a smaller, lighter and more proportionate breast, with a more balanced and harmonious areola and shape with your body.

During the first days you will keep some gauze, an elastic bandage and your bra over the gauze. Once the first treatment is done, you will be able to take a shower. The stitches are removed in 8-10 days.
It is not a particularly painful procedure, although you will feel some pain and especially tension during the first few days. Your surgeon will prescribe a painkiller. You will also take antibiotics for a few days.
At first the sensitivity of the area will be a little altered. Normally it regularizes with the passage of time.
If your work does not involve making efforts you can return to work after the third day. To do sports you should wait a month. We recommend during the first weeks not to make efforts.
Reduction mammoplasty can be performed once the patient has completed her physical development and has the maturity to understand and cope with both the benefits and potential risks of surgery.
In most cases, there will be a scar around the areola, another one in the mammary sulcus and a vertical scar that connects them (inverted T scar). With the appropriate postoperative care that we will indicate, the scars can become practically imperceptible in a few months.
Depending on the technique used, the initial volume of the breasts, the amount of tissue to be reduced and the sensitivity prior to surgery, it is possible to retain a relatively normal sensitivity. However, there is a risk of loss of sensitivity in the nipple and areola.
Although you can breastfeed normally, there is a risk that breastfeeding may not be possible. The risk of not being able to breastfeed is higher in large breast reductions.
Age is not a determining factor, as long as your state of health allows surgery. In fact, it is common to operate on patients over 40 years of age who experience back pain due to the excessive weight of their chest.
In general, the results are very satisfactory. However, it is important to remember that factors such as weight fluctuations and pregnancy can alter the shape of the breasts. As with any surgery, the appearance of edema is normal, and any bruising that may occur will be reabsorbed in the following weeks. To control swelling and keep the breast firm, we place a special bra on the day of discharge, which you must wear day and night for a month. Thanks to the internal suture, it is not necessary to remove stitches, which improves the quality of the scar. The risk of postoperative bleeding is very low, although a small amount of blood and serum drainage is normal. Also, the risk of infection is extremely low, as we administer antibiotics and follow a meticulously sterile surgical technique. In our experience, this complication is very rare and is effectively treated with antibiotics should it occur.
