• Large weight losses generate an important physical transformation, but also involve psychological and medical challenges. Before considering plastic surgery, it is essential that weight is stabilized and that the patient is in good physical and mental health.

• The process begins with a detailed clinical history and a comprehensive evaluation by the plastic surgeon. It is key to define aesthetic priorities, set realistic expectations, and plan how many procedures will be necessary and in what order. These treatments often involve extensive scarring due to the large amount of skin that must be removed.

• The procedure will depend on each area of the body (abdomen, breasts, thighs, arms…) and may require several surgical stages. After the operation, drains and bandages are used, and antibiotics, analgesics, antithrombotics and, in some cases, anxiolytics are administered. Recovery involves a hospital stay of between 2 and 4 days.
